Why Desert Island Toys?
Have you ever heard of the thought experiment which goes something like this?
If you were heading to a desert island and could only bring a handful of things with you, what would make your list?
That question was the whole idea behind how we came up with the name Desert Island Toys. Our goal is simple - we strive to make sex toys so good that they earn a spot on your bedroom short list. The ones you'd actually pack if you were going to your own desert island.
Who Makes the Toys?
My name is Neal. It's nice to meet you!
By day I'm an engineer, but that's just to pay the bills. Filing TPS reports has never excited me. Over the years I deliberately set money aside so that one day I could leave employed work to pursue work I actually care about.
My passions have always leaned more towards the artistic, and towards learning new skills. I'm a very DIY kind of person. When I discovered the indie sex toy making community back in 2022 I knew this was my future path.
I took the next two years to study the craft and learn how to make sex toys which are body-safe before launching my first shop on the Artisans Cooperative.
Since then, I've poured my spare time into new model design and towards slowly and deliberately scaling up. Eventually* this passion is going to become my day job. The goal is not mass production though. Much like the Trappist monks who make some of my favourite high-quality beers, my goal is to make body-safe sex toys which are high-quality at a relatively low-scale. Just enough production to fund my relatively low needs.
